Right to Choose

Your Right to Choose Your Collision Repair Shop

You are not required to use an insurance company’s recommended or “DRP” (Direct Repair Program) shop. Under Florida law:

Florida Statutes § 559.920 requires that any repair work be expressly or implicitly authorized by you, the vehicle owner. An insurer may suggest certain repair shops, but cannot force you to use one you did not choose.

Florida Statutes § 559.909 requires you to approve in advance any repair cost that exceeds the original estimate. You have the right to refuse unauthorized repairs and choose a shop you trust.

If your insurance company insists you use one of their preferred shops for collision repairs and you prefer a different, independent repair facility, you have the right to do so.
